DESCRIPTION:With Karen Odinga\nGreen Sewing with Your Machine – Mending\, Re-purposing & Upcycling Sale\, Charity & Vintage Finds or Your Own Pieces (Needing some TLC) \nLearn basic sewing and design techniques to give some TLC or upcycle your own well-loved pieces or vintage finds to extend its life or give a unique twist to a garment. Participants can bring along an item for advice and starting on its make-over with the skills learned in the session. Through demos and making your own reference samples\, you will learn: \n\nHow to make a dart to shape a garment. (Make a sample)\nAdding zips (demo).\nFabric inserts to create flounces/godets (Make a sample)\nDarning/embroidery stitches for holes.\nMaking a ruffle (Make a sample).\nAdding layers for length (demo)\nEssential supplies to have on hand for making design changes.\n\nWhat to bring to the session: \n\nSewing machine with its accessories\, leads and manual. Please note that participants will be required to have a basic working knowledge of their particular model.\nDressmaking scissors\nDressmaking pins\nTape measure\nGeneral all-purpose thread (just bring what you have)\nGeneral sewing needles\nAny other interesting threads\, scraps of fabric\, lace\, ribbon\, trims etc. you may have in your stash. Even if you just want to use the time to catch up on a past project\, patterns for the little festive projects will be available to all. Maybe I’ll remember to bring some mince pies as well. \nRequirements for catch up session: \nMachine with accessories\, leads and manual\nYour project (if putting on the finishing touches for the session) plus any threads & materials to accompany it.\nUsual sewing kit to include sewing needles\, tape measure\, dressmaker’s pins\, dressmaking scissors plus any other bits you have collected as part of your kit. \nRequirements for Christmas Fripperies things: \nFrom your stash (don’t buy anything-just bring what you have) Anything interesting in small quantities to include: \nFabric scraps\nBeads\, charms\, broken jewellery bits\, sequins\, lace\, trims etc. \nI’ll bring along my bag of oddments too.
