Tea and cakes. \nAGM Afternoon Talk\nTHE CLOTHES OF VICTORIAN EAST COAST FISHERMEN\nThis is the story of how the clothing of late Victorian oystermen\, who worked in harsh North Sea conditions\, was researched and recreated using the methods and materials of the time. The Pioneer Sailing Trust and members of Brightlingsea U3A worked together on producing the clothing layer by layer from underwear to weather-proofed outer ware\, on finding materials and patterns and learning something of the social and economic conditions of working seafarers.\nThe talk will be illustrated\, along with the clothes that were recreated and show the journey and outcomes of the research which cumulated in the production of a book ‘Oysters and Oilskins’\nNon-members also welcome. £5 entry fee.
